POSITION TITLE: Cake Decorator
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Bakery Manager
To provide quality decorated bakery products that meet the customer's needs, ensures customer satisfaction, and ensures a positive shopping experience.
Nature and Scope
Primary emphasis in this position is to ensure consistent product quality and meeting daily needs in the bakery department. This position requires creativity, attention to detail and on-going customer interaction while maintaining production requirements. This position also requires knowledge of bakery production and product preparation, food safety regulations, judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, memorization, reading, writing and math. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction provided by Bakery Manager or person in charge.
Essential Position Functions
Assist customers Greet customers Answer customer questions; provide product sampling and suggestive selling Bring customers to location of item, when needed Assist with product replacement and price checks Answer bakery telephone calls promptly Record cake orders accurately and completely
Prepare bakery products Follow safe food handling and preparation processes Follow approved decorating styles, and create new decorations as appropriate Complete production assignments Ensure consistent quality and accuracy in decorating Accurately package, label and price product Assist in production, wrapping and labeling of bakery product Ensure a variety of product is prepared for maximum sales potential
Ensure adequate quantities of product and decorating supplies Maintain adequate quantity of product Maintain proper quantities of decorating supplies Place orders as required
Stock, rotate and face bakery product Pull stales and writes down product, quantity and retail Prepare sales area by cleaning cases and bins Rotate and faces product Stock shelves, bins and cases Check price and verify signage
Assist with department merchandising as directed Assists with seasonal resets Maintains cross-merchandised product throughout the store Assists in maintaining proper signage
Perform clean-up of department Follow all safety, sanitation and food handling regulation Maintain a clean and organized decorating area Maintain conditions in the back room Clean shelves, racking and cases as needed Use personal protective devices (splash goggles, chemical resistant gloves) as required
Follows all store and department policies and procedures
Performs other duties as assigned or delegated
FREQUENT: 15% of the work shift or at least ten repetitions per work shift.
OCCASIONAL: Approximately less than 15% of the work shift or fewer than 10 repetitions per work shift.
Physical lifting/carrying to 50 lbs., pushing/pulling over 50 force lbs. walking, reaching, standing, stooping/bending, squatting repetitive motion: turning, bending equipment operation:
bakery rack, shopping cart, decorating utensils, cleaning utensils
judgment/decision making, social skills/verbal interaction, memorization, reading, writing, math
extended exposure to varied temperatures and wet surfaces
working close to heated surface
lifting/carrying over 50 lbs.
