NATURE AND SCOPE
Emphasis in this position is in meeting daily needs of preparing, stocking and displaying product in order to ensure maximum department sales, product availability and superior customer service. The position requires on-going customer interaction, providing prompt, courteous and accurate service. Primary learning challenge is in product knowledge, case sets, tray assembly and equipment use. This position requires knowledge of food safety regulations, ongoing moderate to heavy lifting, walking, standing, operation of all deli equipment, exposure to hot surfaces and oils, social skills, judgment/decision making, reading, writing, and math. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs. Assignments and work direction provided by Deli Manager or person in charge.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS
Assist customers
Greet customers as they approach the deli counter Process customers' orders properly (quantity, quality and price) Answer customer questions; provide product sampling and suggestive selling Answer deli telephone calls promptly Perform price checks Exchange product when necessary Bring customers to item location when needed Assist with special orders Perform cashier functions as needed Prepare deli product
Follow safe food handling and preparation processes as directed by both written and verbal instruction Properly shave and slice meats and cheeses according to store guidelines Ensure freshness and quality of all product by following proper storage guidelines and eliminating expired food Assemble salads, sandwiches, pizzas, party trays and chicken, etc. by accurately following recipes Follow tare weight procedures Shrink wrap product when appropriate Accurately label and price all wrapped product Fill and rotate deli cases and displays
Pull stales and write down product, quantity and retail Prepare sales area by cleaning cases and bins Ensure cases and displays are full, clean and attractive Maintain proper refrigeration and handle product properly to avoid damage Code dates on product and separates outdated our unfit product Set cases and displays according to instruction Assist with department merchandising as directed
Build and maintain department displays Decorate the department Assist with seasonal resets Check price and verify sign and product price Assist in receiving of product
Correctly match delivery to invoice and sign Monitor product quality Store product and ensure proper refrigeration Break down department and performs cleaning duties
Follow all safety, sanitation and food handling regulations Break down department; clean ovens and fryer; wash/change salad bowls Clean department and maintain conditions in the back room Perform department shop back functions Clean shelves and cases as needed Sweep and mop floors Use personal protective devices (cut-resistant gloves, chemical-resistant gloves, chemical splash goggles, poly gloves) as directed Follow all store and department policies and procedures
