Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the Hospital Laboratory Director will have the opportunity to directly affect clinical efficacy and efficiency in a busy department. Supporting the Director is a CLS Laboratory Manager who oversees day-to-day technical operations, as well as two Supervisors who directly lead the 40+ Bench Clinical Lab Scientists, Micro, Chem, and Hematology Specialists, Laboratory Quality Assurance Specialists, and LIS (Lab Information System) Specialists.
Serving as a subject matter expert on all manner of laboratory testing procedures, from medium to high complexity, you will provide guidance and accountability for adherence to CLIA requirements. Some days you will serve your staff as a teacher, other days as a mentor, and others as an expert. A team-based approach to this large, diverse laboratory staff is crucial for guaranteeing continued buy-in, trust, and efficiency from each member. Actively managing the Microbiologists, Hematologists, Cytotechnologists, Histologists, Phlebotomists, Chemists, and various support staff through direct coaching, team and personal development initiatives, and clear performance expectations will help the CLS Lab Director continue the upward trajectory of quality improvement for this lab and for the health care system.
Administratively, the CLS Laboratory Director will apply CLIA and CAP guidelines to ensure the laboratory's compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies for clinical lab testing. You will work to ingrain the lab's test development and validation processes with the same high-quality standards that you'd expect from a respected health system. In addition to actively overseeing and managing the day-to-day financial performance of the laboratory, you will also take a large role in deciding the strategic direction and special project participation of the laboratory.
