Microsofts Cloud Operations and Innovation Business is looking for a Senior Director, DC Telemetry in the Strategy, Hardware, Innovation, and Process group. This role will enable the next generation of datacenter operations.

By defining and implementing telemetry solutions, the candidate will bring forth data to enable optimal and automated decision making resulting in improved uptime for our customers and a lower cost of operations. In order to do so, the person in this role will be responsible for hardware, software, and process definition for IoT solutions and the resultant data platforms that cover all aspects of operating warehouse scale datacenters, including server, storage, network, and industrial hardware.

The ideal candidate is creative, talented, and experienced with a strong technical background and expertise in datacenter telemetry for fleet health to maximize availability and uptime. You will collaborate with Datacenter Design Engineers, Availability and Operation partners, Data Scientists, and other engineering disciplines to develop solutions in new builds and continuous improvements in existing facilities. This role will require the candidate to demonstrate strategic vision, technical leadership for execution, as well as to program manage key initiatives, and engage with multiple cross-functional teams. A strong skill set covering engineering analysis, problem solving, program management, communication, and internal/external partner engagement is required.
  • Build and lead the team responsible for ensuring Microsofts systems, engineers, and decision-makers have the best information possible about our datacenter fleet.
  • Define and lead large cross-functional programs working with a variety of internal and external partners.
  • Represent the telemetry function in new datacenter and new hardware design processes.
  • Ensure telemetry requirements are built into new datacenter software tools and processes.

Required Qualifications:
  • 12+ years of technical engineering experienceOR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years of technical engineering experience OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • 10+ years relevant experience in IoT or hardware engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years building and managing cross-functional teams.
  • 6+ years in a leadership position with a provider of cloud, datacenter, utility, or critical environment services.
  • 6+ years of experience/ technical background in at least one of the following:
  • IoT/IIoT
  • Server Hardware
  • Networking (Ethernet, ToR/MoR)
  • Infrastructure focused Site Reliability Engineering
  • Datacenter Environmental Systems
  • Cloud Reliability
Preferred Qualifications :
  • 10+ years of experience defining or delivering IoT solutions
  • 10+ years working in delivering or maintaining cloud capacity
  • Expert knowledge of data center processes and technology
  • Expert knowledge of hardware manufacturing or integration processes and technology
  • 6+ years working with data science teams
  • 6+ years leading software development teams
