So, what's our Digital Engineering Vision? Simply put, we will become a fully digitised bank, by developing a best-in-class digital delivery capability for our colleagues and our customers. By becoming a truly Agile Organisation, our Digital Engineering Agile journey started in October 2020, since then, we have set up new Tribes, new squads, new ways of workings, loads of training sessions and much, much more.

The Digital Engineering team is part of the wider Digital & Innovation function, and we are responsible for IT solutions that underpin our multi-channel distribution systems which includes our websites, mobile applications and client-server applications. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior IIB/ESB Senior Software Developer to join our Mortgages, Enterprise & Heritage Tribe right now!

As a Senior IIB/ESB Developer, we're not just looking for a technologist but for someone who also enjoys engaging and collaborating with stakeholders. We believe in collaboration, with Agile at the heart of everything we do. We aren't perfect (who is?) so we iterate and improve as we go. We are looking for people who can not only help us continue to disrupt the banking sector but also how we become better at what we do!

Day to day you'll ...

  • Deliver high quality software components and documentation which conform to VM's guidelines and standards.
  • Work as part of a squad assisting in the evolution of the IIB/ESB Middleware Platform to keep fit for the future.
  • Identify, implement or suggest changes that improve service to internal and external customers.
  • Lead, coach and manage the IIB/ESB development team, to deliver quality outputs in a timely fashion, that meet the needs of stakeholders; focusing not just on what is delivered, but equally focused on how objectives are achieved.
  • Apply technical and platform knowledge, make key technical decisions and build a consensus around technical direction in an agile environment.
  • Evolve development practices, processes and tools in a proactive manner.
  • Use your SME knowledge and ability to collaborate with other members of the team, to enhance their and your skills and manage multiple streams of work through to completion.

To be successful you'll need

  • A proven and successful track record and in-depth experience of IBM IIB/ACE or similar (ESB) Middleware products, across multiple areas of a typical enterprise technology.
  • Technical skills and knowledge to evaluate business requirements, solution designs and produce estimates, solutions and functional specifications for the development.
  • Contribute to technical discussions and assist other team members when necessary.
  • SME Knowledge and significant practical experience in Agile development with a strong grasp of automation, continuous integration, test-driven development and continuous refactoring.
  • In depth knowledge and significant practical experience of performing code reviews and drive software standards and best practices.
  • SME Experience in Agile development, e.g. Scrum, Kanban, SAFe.
  • SME knowledge on SOAP and REST service design and implementation.
  • Spring Framework, JBOSS Application Server (or similar).
  • An engaging, warm manner with a natural ability to lead and inspire.
  • The ability to positively influence and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A love for problem solving as you search for the best solutions and explore new boundaries.

The icing on the cake would be experience in the following tools: Eclipse, SOAPUI & Postman, IntelliJ, GIT/GIT Bash & TFS. This is a wish list so don't worry if you don't have all of these as we'd still love to hear from you! Overall, your attitude and approach are as important as the experience and skills that you will bring.
