Reporting to the Executive Vice President Corporate Responsibility, Strategy and Innovation, the VP, Sustainability will lead the execution of Protective's Sustainability strategy. As VP, Sustainability you will oversee and ensure alignment and engagement around our vision, roadmap, governance structure, metrics and disclosure priorities to support business growth and our purpose and brand.

You will oversee a roadmap of key initiatives to deliver on our sustainability strategy, oversee the disclosure of sustainability metrics to meet regulatory and other key stakeholder needs, engage with internal and external stakeholders on our sustainability strategy and performance. You will work closely with other roles and functions within the organization on our overall sustainability efforts. In some cases, the strategy is defined and owned through separate functions whereas in others, you will need to provide support and guidance to help mature them or some cases, take the lead in development and maturation of those efforts. This role will serve as a liaison to our executive management, Dai-ichi Life and other key stakeholders up to and including the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities
    • Establish and ensure ongoing implementation of the company's sustainability governance structure
    • Communicate key sustainability topics, strategy and progress to executive stakeholders
    • Serve as the primary liaison for executive leadership, Dai-ichi Life, Board of Directors and external partners on sustainability related matters
    • Serve as a dotted line partner for select roles and functions critical to sustainability including DE&I/HR, Accounting, Risk, Facilities and Investments
    • Serve as the co-chairperson on the sustainability taskforce
    • Educate, inform and engage business functions on the necessary action to achieve certain sustainability targets, integrating priorities into business planning process, educating leaders and teams on overall sustainability strategy and reinforcing the opportunities for sustainability across the organization
    • Partner with existing community involvement, philanthropic support, DE&I and other relevant sustainability efforts to support overall sustainability strategy
    • Develop in partnership or as the lead, sustainability strategy and plans in areas where we are less mature or that are just emerging
    • Establish and maintain information and processes where needed for internal and external disclosure and to support ongoing strategy development
    • Oversee the integration of sustainability best practices into existing corporate polices either directly or in conjunction with internal stakeholders
    • Provide internal and external visibility into sustainability performance, and progress towards targets through data and analytics
    • Develop, where needed and maintain consistent stakeholder sustainability metrics, disclosures, communications, and regulatory filings in partnership with Accounting, Risk, HR and others as appropriate

Qualifications
    • 10+ years of experience in sustainability, consulting or related field, preferably in the financial services industry
    • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Public Policy or another related field
    • Demonstrates an executive presence and interpersonal skills that enable collaborative relationships and strong engagement with internal and external stakeholders
    • Experience leading impactful projects and programs with the ability to manage complexity and create buy-in
    • Familiarity with ESG ratings (e.g., MSCI, Sustainalytics, ISS, S&P)
    • Knowledge of sustainability analytics, risks, reporting and disclosures
    • Demonstrated ability to influence and drive strategy across multiple, high-level stakeholders
    • Demonstrated superior communication and presentation skills including simplifying sustainability concepts and strategy to ensure stakeholder understanding
    • Comfort with combining both qualitative and quantitative analysis to solve business problems and create solutions
    • Must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
    • Experience with leading teams and project management including budget analysis, status reporting, and issue management preferred
    • Proven ability to prioritize tasks and to organize workloads across various workstreams and teams; familiarity with agile preferred
