POSITION TITLE: Hardware Clerk/ Warehouse Assistant
ACCOUNTABLE TO : Hardware Manager / Warehouse Manager

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE

To ensure a positive shopping experience for customers by maintaining helpful service and by processing sales accurately and efficiently. Assist Warehouse Manager with delivery and pick up of small engines equipment and/or grills to and from the warehouse, Jerry's Do It Best Hardware locations and customer's homes.

NATURE AND SCOPE

Primary emphases in this position are providing great customer service and following proper procedures in all transactions, including efficient and accurate processing of all customer purchases. This position requires ongoing social skills/verbal interaction, register/scanner operation, reading, and moderate to heavy lifting, walking and standing. Prior product knowledge is helpful but not required. Position functions and work hours may vary according to business needs, including nights and at least one weekend day. Daily assignments and work direction is provided by Hardware Manager, Warehouse Manager or person in charge.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

Assist customers and ensure proper service levels and courtesy from all associates

  • Greet, offer assistance, and thank customers
  • Answer or refer questions, and respond to customer requests as needed
  • Bring customers to location of item when necessary
  • Perform price checks
  • Respond to customer assistance needs/calls promptly
  • Direct customer problems to management as appropriate
  • Maintain awareness of all promotions and advertisements
  • Customer service for lawn mowers, grills and other small engines
  • Assist with building grills, lawn mowers and other equipment
  • Willingness to learn forklift and other power equipment with the possibility of delivery truck operation

    Load materials for shipping and incoming shipments. Count, sort, weigh and unpack materials. Keep track of inventory of both incoming and outgoing products.

    Ensure proper handling of all forms of tender and coupons

  • Count and enter cash into register
  • Enter credit and debit card transactions into register system
  • . Ensure accurate handling of all voids, returns, refunds and exchanges

  • Follow store return, refund and exchange policies
  • Complete refund forms and record on register log
  • Handle transaction in a courteous and efficient manner
  • Call for shop back of perishable product as required
  • . Assist with maintenance and cleaning

  • Maintain a neat and orderly working area
  • Stock and straighten product as necessary
  • . Perform other duties as assigned, including but not limited to

  • Assemble product as needed
  • Assist with inventory
  • Help customers load purchases into their vehicle
  • Build displays
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining an orderly work area
  • . Follow all store and department policies and procedures. Awareness of public safety and following security measures in place to prevent injuries.

    OTHER DUTIES (for employees at least 18 years of age):

  • Cut keys
  • Sharpen lawn mower blades
  • PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    FREQUENT:  25% of the work shift or at least ten repetitions per work shift.

    OCCASIONAL: Approximately less than 15% of the work shift or fewer than 10 repetitions per work shift.

    lifting/carrying 50 lbs., pushing/pulling to 20 force pounds, equipment operation (scanner, register, check approval machine, coupon machine), reaching, standing, turning

    lifting/carrying over 50 lbs., equipment operation (calculator), squatting, stooping/bending, walking
